How did you become a coffee farmer?

Farming is in my DNA.  Family was small farmers on the mainland (Midwest) and I wanted to be a farmer on Hawaii.  Hawaii has always been my favorite place to live.

What are your biggest challenges as a coffee farmer?

(1) Finding coffee workers and pickers; (2) Keeping costs down to ensure business remains profitable; (3) Trying to grow the acreage into a high production farm; (4) Balancing work and free time.

What are your biggest joys as a coffee farmer?

(1) Watching the coffee cherry mature and ripen; (2) Engaging with other farmers and learning about their experiences; (3) Pursuing the opportunity to open a small coffee shop in the area

What does coffee mean to you?

(1) Another opportunity to learn and grow as a person; (2) Another opportunity to meet and engage with exciting new people; (3) Another opportunity to better myself

Served 30+ years on active duty in the US Marine Cops.  Excited about a second (new) career in the coffee farming business
