Ka‘u Star Gazing
Friday, May 9, 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Makanau
Ticket prices to be determined
Ka‘u is a place of natural beauty, with vast open landscapes and night skies unmarred by city lights. On May 3, Ka'u Coffee Mill offered an evening of wine and beer tasting while gazing at the stars.
'Imiloa astronomer Shawn Laatsch gave a lecture on stars from Makanau as the sun set. While the clouds prevented many stars from being seen, the astronomer used the sky as a backdrop for teaching the group about Ka'u’s night skies. Before dark, the group was able to see the view from Makanau, a famous sacred site and lookout place for Hawaiians.
The $35 fee included snacks, Ka‘u coffee and other beverages.
